Interfacial Phenomena and Reaction Kinetics between High Al Molten Steel and CaO-SiO2-Type Flux

To understand the reaction mechanism between high Mn-high Al steel and slag, experiment of Fe-Mn-Al melts with CaO-SiO2-type flux was carried out in MgO crucible at 1873 K. The evolution morphology interface inspected firstly, then global kinetics modeled consideration effect dynamic interfacial phenomena. results show that Fe-5 mass % alloy SiO2 or low protective strong chemical affinity metal leads to spontaneous emulsification attenuated progression reaction. Combined change area caused by emulsification, it is found can be described satisfactorily transfer model liquid steel, determined coefficient about k[Al]=4.46×10−5 m/s. However, phenomenon Fe-13%Mn-5%Al slag did not disappear reaction, which attributed decreasing tension Mn addition accumulation C on interface. This process assuming as rate-controlling step estimated k(SiO2)=5.12×10−6
